A Man of Steadfast Joy

We had Cohen’s dedication service this past Sunday. It was a beautiful thing to stand before our church family, surrounded by our parents, grandparents and siblings and dedicate the life of our child to the Lord.

We shared about his name and why we chose it.

Cohen – Priest.

1 Peter 2:9 “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”

Our boy.

One of God’s chosen people.

A member of a royal priesthood.

Wow, such powerful words to speak and pray over our boy.

But maybe even more special than the public dedication of our son to the Lord, was the private dedication Alex and I had the day before.

Do you ever wonder how to pray for your children? Your family? Your spouse?

Why not simply take some time and ask the Lord what words He wants to speak over the one you’re lifting up? We did just that, on a long drive home from a Saturday evening birthday party. There was nothing “special” about the time or the place (in our car, Cohen sleeping in the car seat, the world dark around us) but it was a sacred moment.

It was the moment I will always remember as Cohen’s dedication.

We each prayed and listened and the words God gave us for little C were “steadfast” and “joy”.  These are the gifts He’s given to our son and hearing them from God’s heart to ours empowered our prayers. Now we pray not only our hopes for Cohen, but in agreement with what God has already spoken over Him.

  1. Steadfast and joy. He’s going to be an amazing man heather. How’s his little neck? I havent been keeping up with my favorite bloggers lately…busy days.

  2. This is such a special time for a family. We really enjoyed our baby’s dedication the week after she was born. Found you via cup 1/2 full linky.

  3. this is awesome, Heather, our first boy name was Cohen, but by the time we had a boy we felt like he was supposed to have a different name. I still really, really love it, though, and have kept it on our list for if we ever have other kids =) I love that you had a private dedication of sorts for him. we find theme verses for our kids that go along with the meaning of their names. we take all of that really seriously.
