#gospel living: into the world

Sometimes it feels like there are SO many Christian blogs out there, I wonder what the point of adding another one to the mix is. Does the world really need another Christian blog? Or would be time be better served doing something else?

When I look at Jesus life in the gospels, I see a man who was actively living out the kingdom, not just speaking (or in my case writing) about truth. Jesus took the dry bones of the law and breathed life into it by actually living it. He walked outside of the walls of his home, his synagogue, his circle of family and friends, and went out into the world.

And He calls us to do the same.

As I was struggling over all of these thoughts this week, God asked me a question. He said, “Heather, what would happen if you put as much effort into sharing the gospel with the people in your life who don’t know me, as you did on your blog?”

Good question, Lord.

What would happen if I had the same boldness, passion, and outspoken love with the clerk ringing up my groceries, the guy pumping my gas, my neighbors, as I have with all of you?

And even bigger, what would happen if every single one of us Christian bloggers lived out our online passion in the real world, every. single. day.??? We could literally change the world! Think of us, spread all across Canada, the US, the world – we’re a force to be reckoned with – not just bloggers – all of us who follow Christ!

I’ve had a few of these “live it out” kind of moments over the past ten years, but to be honest, only a handful. And it seems like I’m telling the same stories over and over again, because nothing new has happened. But I know there are more stories to tell because there are more people who need to be loved, need to be approached like the women at the well, and told about the abundant life Christ offers.

So here’s the challenge for you and I. This year, how can we LIVE OUT the gospel, both online and in our every day lives? I’ve appropriately titled this challenge #gospelliving and my hope is that over the next year, we’ll have some new stories to tell, stories about reaching outside of our comfort zones and boldly sharing the love of Christ with the people we run into each day. Not just the ones we’re comfortable with, but the ones who don’t know love, who don’t know hope, who don’t know Jesus.

So will you join me? Will you challenge yourself to a year of #gospelliving?

  1. Totally feel the same way!! I am constantly convicted about the fact that I have friends who do not follow Christ and yet, I sit online talking to friends who do. I do feel like blogging serves a purpose though. It can encourage and be a witness in of itself if you use it right!

  2. What a great challenge! I’ve only recently started my blog and the same questions were popping into my head. I am definitely going to post about #gospelliving this weekend. Thanks!

  3. I don’t know if my comment went through, so I’ll try again…

I definitely agree with this. I am also convicted about getting out there are forming relationships/community with the people who are already in my life, rather than constantly seeking out a new friendship/community online. Thank you for this reminder, Heather. Definitely food for thought today.

  4. I love this challenge! So beautiful and needed. I feel like my life is a constant challenge since every part of my life is centered on the fact that my husband and I moved to Florida to meet people in order to share the gospel with them since we want to help start this church with people getting saved! But that so often becomes and excuse I not be bold…”well I was bold yesterday. I’d rather build a relationship first. I already moved across the country, give me a break. Or worst, I can just live out my faith online because I miss home and it’s too hard meeting people in real life.” Sigh…all horrible excuses. Thanks for the encouragement.

  5. Heather: This is my first time visiting, and so glad I did. I ask myself the same questions all the time. Thank you for putting the challenge out there for all of us. Look forward to hearing the stories as we all step into our worlds and be Jesus as He’s called us to be. Amen. -lauren
