How do we fall in love with an unseen God?
How do we give in to the wooing of one we can’t touch or hold? How do we keep from reducing our relationship with God to a formula?
Bible Reading + Prayer + Church Attendance + Good Deeds = Love.
Is that how we first fell in love with our spouse? Did we add him or her onto our “to do” list and feel it was a chore to be with them? Did we kick ourselves when we just didn’t feel like talking to them? Did we force ourselves to read their emails, love notes, cards?
That’s not how it happened for me. When I first fell in love I was completely swept away. I was mesmerized and giddy and drawn.
This is how we fall in love with God. We dwell on Him and His incredible love for us until we are completely enamored, caught up and can’t help but respond. We let go of our formulas, to do’s and the guilt and shame of not doing enough, and rest in His presence. God doesn’t want more service and striving and strain. He has no longer called us slaves but SONS and DAUGHTERS!
Will you let Him love you today? Will you listen as he rejoices over you with singing? Will you be allow yourself to be caught up in His love?
“The LORD your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.” (Zephaniah 3:17)
