Maybe We’ll Just Stay Home

In preparation for BSSM I decided to track down the reading list and get a bit of a head start (keener, I know.) I’d heard from a previous first year student that there was a lot of reading and seeing my free time will be limited, thanks to #tornadoandhurricane (aka Cohen and Claire), why not get to it?

For those of you who are curious, here is the book list:

Experiencing Father’s Embrace by John G. Arnott & Jack Frost

The Happy Intercessor by Beni Johnson
Spirit Wars by Kris Valloton
Moral Revolution by Kris Valloton
Culture of Honor by Danny Silk
A Practical Guide to Evangelism – Supernaturally by Chris Overstreet
Basic Training for the Prophetic Ministry by Kris Valloton
The Supernatural Ways of Royalty by Kris Vallotton
Spirit Wars by Kris Vallotton
Moral Revolution by Kris Vallotton
God’s Generals by Roberts Liardon
30 Days To Understanding the Bible by Max Anders
Basic Training for the Prophetic Ministry by Kris Valloton
Hosting the Presence by Bill Johnson
When Heaven Invades Earth by Bill Johnson

The books in bold are the ones I’ve read so far this summer. Not quite as many as I was hoping, but it’s something, right? Now that I’m looking at this list again I’ve gotta say, that is A LOT of reading. Wow. Hopefully I can get one or two more finished before I go.

But as I’ve been reading through these books, God has been doing a work in me. I can almost feel my brain cells stretching and shifting as they take in all this life-giving truth. Even though I’ve grown up  going to church and reading my bible, a lot of this is really new for me and it’s shifting my paradigms in the best way.

Here are a few of my favourite quotes so far:

“We always have a role in our development. Gifts are free; maturity is expensive.” – Bill Johnson, Hosting the Presence

“I can’t afford to think differently about myself and my life than God does.” – Bill Johnson, The Supernatural Ways of Royalty

“This (baptism of fire) is best expressed by people who are presence-driven instead of ministry driven. It’s not about what I can accomplish for God. It’s all about who goes with me and how I can protect that most valuable connection.” -Bill Johnson, Hosting the Presence

“Scripture is clear that we have two options – we can choose either to protect the rules and create a religious culture, or to protect our relationships and create a culture of love.” -Danny Silk, Culture of Honor

“You only have authority over the storm you can sleep in.” – Bill Johnson, When Heaven Invades Earth

God’s been doing such a transformation in me already, I figure why bother uprooting our lives and moving all the way to California? Maybe I could just read through these books and call it a day. It would definitely save us a bit of money.

But really, what I want isn’t just more head knowledge. I could read all these books and fill up my pretty little head with new ideas and concepts, but what I’m after is not information, but revelation. I’m after an encounter with His presence and am willing to do anything to get it. So here we come Redding. Four weeks to go! You can follow along with my journey on instagram and using the hashtag #BSSM1516

Have you read any of these books? Any favourites? I’d love to hear from you so feel free to share in the comments below!
