Our Love Story: Part 3

August Long Weekend, 2006.

I picked Alex up from the airport and straight away whisked him off to the cabin (my favorite place on earth) and introduced him to my whole family!  He was like deer in headlights meeting my parents, brother and sister, grandparents, aunts and uncles – all in one shot.  It sounds kinda mean but I wanted to see what the guy was made of.  I’m worth it, right?

We had a great time at the lake wake boarding, playing games, taking long walks at night, star gazing with stars in our eyes.

He asked me to be his girlfriend and we shared our first kiss on the ridge overlooking a valley of evergreens.  It was perfect.

Less than a year later on July 7, 2007 (07/07/07) Alex proposed on that very same ridge, about 3 months after moving to Winnipeg.

It was so special that it happened on 07/07/07 because the number seven is a significant spiritual number.  It’s the number of fulfillment and that day God fulfilled one of my deepest longings and greatest dreams – to marry a man after His own heart.

Six months later, on January 10, 2008 we were married in Holguin, Cuba!  43 of our closest friends and family celebrated with us beside the turquoise waters.  All four sets of our grandparents were there as well as many other dear friends and family.

It was the best two weeks of my life! (One week with our whole crew and the second week on our own for the honeymoon)

Being married to Alex has been an amazing adventure so far.

Here are some of the things we’ve done in the last 3 1/2 years:

  • Bought and renovated our first house (photos on facebook)
  • Moved to Australia surf, volunteer and work for 6 months
  • Bought and renovated our second house (photos on facebook)
  • Started two businesses (my speaking and his exterior renovations company)
  • Traveled to Cuba, Australia, Fiji and across Canada
  • Had our first child! (read Cohen’s birth story here)

It’s been an amazing journey so far and I’m so excited to see what else God has in store for us.  I know it will be beyond all I could ask, dream or imagine (Ephesians 3:20)

And that’s our story.

  1. Heather, thank you so much for sharing your story; it’s clear that God did and is writing you and Alex’s love story! It was encouraging because 1) you started writing it on my birthday 2)it confirmed what I already know about God: when we are busy about doing what He has called us to do and walking in His will for our life, EVERYTHING He has for us is in the path of our purpose; including a Godly husband. Thank you, your story has encouraged me to keep pursuing God and chasing after Him.

I don’t remember how I found your website, oh yes, I found it by googling “rejoicing with those that are rejoicing”. God bless!

  2. Oh my word, you’re story made me laugh and almost cry! It’s so encouraging to see God bringing people together like this! I know I need to just keep seeking Him and following His will for my life, and it will happen! (though having patience is extremely difficult sometimes)

  3. I LOVE THIS! What a beautiful story. Totally made me smile that all 4 sets of your grandparents were there. WOW!! I didn’t have either set on my side still alive during my wedding this past April, but I know they were shining down on me!

BEAUTIFUL LOCATION AND PICS! And I love the name Cohen 🙂

  4. I love your love story! It’s always been my dream to meet a guy like yours and have a relationship where God’s in the center. I am so happy for you and your family! Have a wonderful life! <3
