What Will it Be Like?

Screen Shot 2015-08-15 at 7.49.02 AMA few people have asked me what life will be like for our family once we get to Redding California, and I start school at BSSM. Well in some ways, your guess is as good as mine and there are some things we will only know once we arrive. But here’s some of what we’re expecting.

First of all, we’re renting a beautiful home that has this amazing backyard with a pool, hot tub and a trampoline. I think Alex and the kids will be having pool parties every afternoon while I’m in class. Ha ha! I have class Mon-Thurs from 10:30-3:30 so I imagine most mornings I’ll watch the kids before school so Alex can get some work done over phone and email. On Mon, Wed and Fri mornings Cohen will be going to Bethel Christian Pre School as well.

My day will be a combination of bible classes, revival group (a group of about 65-70 people that are assigned to a pastor and meet weekly), worship/prayer time, and teaching from some of Bethel’s leaders like Bill Johnson, Kris Valloton and Danny Silk. I’m sure there are other aspects that I don’t know about yet, but I’m going there totally open and ready to jump in with both feet.

I’m hoping that we can use our weekends to connect with friends, explore Redding and it’s surroundings and do a bit of travelling. I’d love to go to Napa Valley, the Redwood forests, San Francisco and whatever else to can drive to in a weekend. We might even get down to Southern California at some point, who knows. Fortunately I’ve connected with an amazing girl from Winnipeg who is going to BSSM for her second year and is interested in doing some babysitting for our kids on evenings and weekends. And the crazy thing is, she only lives a few blocks away from me here in Winnipeg? God is in the details.

We still don’t have day time child care lined up for the weeks when Alex will travel back to Winnipeg for work (one week a month) so please pray we find the perfect person for those days. I have a few options but nothing that feels quite right yet.

One of the biggest blessings in this process is that we already have a few friends down in Redding. One of my best friends Amanda and her husband live down there and we met some of their friends when we visited in June, who embraced us as family. I’m sure we will meet a ton of amazing people but it’s nice to know we have a few friends to start with.

If you have any questions about what life will be like for us, feel free to ask. I can’t guarantee I know the answers, but if I do, I’ll tell ya!
